David A. Smith MSc CP(c)
Originally from Hamilton, Ontario, David now calls Saint John home. David completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology in 2011 from the University of Waterloo. He got his first experiences of the East coast during his masters training at UNB Fredericton. During his time in Fredericton David was able to undertake research assessing upper limb symmetry in prosthesis users vs non users. These experiences led David to his formal prosthetics and orthotics training at George Brown College in Toronto. David completed his prosthetics residency through the Sunnybrook Centre for Independent Living where he continued to practice for 4 years with additional training undertaken in Orthotic care. Upon returning to NB in 2020, David recognized a great need for pre amputation care for patients with advanced diabetic neuropathy and in need of diabetic offloading. This interest in amputation prevention led to the creation of Beacon Ortho. David has experience treating all levels of major amputation and has a special interest in adaptive technology and 3d printing. He launched Beacon to stay at the forefront of emerging technologies in the field and offer exceptional, compassionate orthopedic care. David spends most of his time outside of work with his partner and young son. In spare moments he likes to sail, ride his motorcycle, and learn new things.
Jillian Warden LCPO, CO(c)
Jillian is originally from Saint John but moved to the states as a young girl. After being introduced to the O&P field through a family friend she completed her B.Sc in Orthotics and Prosthetics at the University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas, Texas in 2009. While completing a residency in orthotics at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children she realized her passion for working with pediatrics. She feels that orthotics should be a complement to orthopedics as a field focused on improved motion and function. Her pediatric experience led her to working eleven years at Cook Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas.
Jillian’s interests and specialty training include scoliosis, clubfoot, cranial remolding, and all levels of lower extremity bracing. She has experience in treating the insensate foot as well as sports specific bracing and upper extremity prosthetics.
Family finally brought her back to the Maritimes and she is looking forward to serving the community in Saint John and beyond. Outside of work she enjoys spending time with her two kids and exploring the beaches and trails in the area.
